Machine Learning Engineer - NLP (m/f/d)

What we do

Merantix Momentum is a Berlin-based AI startup focusing on accelerating AI adoption across many industries through B2B solutions, as well as publicly funded research projects. We work across several domains, including manufacturing, healthcare, the German public sector, and many more, transforming businesses as an external machine learning department. We achieve this using our core expertise in state-of-the-art machine learning combined with our culture of rapid iterations to build scalable solutions.

Your tasks

Your role

Are you passionate about developing impactful applications of Machine Learning? The mission of this role is to bring state-of-the-art deep-learning methods to real-world applications from ideation and prototyping to production.

These will be your main responsibilities:

• Leading major projects
• Scope machine learning projects and their technical feasibility through client interaction
• Contribute to the next generation AI stack and grow the open source ecosystem
• Collaborate with data-, backend-, and frontend engineers in order to build production-ready AI solutions
• Design and implement machine learning solutions for real-world use cases

Your profile

The ideal candidate is proficient in software engineering and modern machine- and deep-learning technologies, with a solid understanding of machine learning theory and fundamentals.

You take technical ownership of machine learning solutions and can lead NLP projects from ideation to production.

• MSc/PhD in computer science, machine learning, or a related technical field - or equivalent practical experience
• Strong programming skills in Python
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing modern NLP solutions, particularly Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) or agentic systems, with a solid understanding of their underlying principles.
• Experience with training and fine-tuning neural networks is a plus
• Appreciation for sound engineering practices such as version control, clean code, code reviews, testing, CI/CD, and automation
• Ability to make architectural decisions and drive projects independently
• Ability to interact with clients and stakeholders to understand their problems, contribute to solution design, and clearly explain complex technical concepts
• Fluency in English and German
